So, while this is a a few days old…
Think positive thoughts, look at the bright side and good things will happen. Rather than cry and complain about the state of record sales, rather than be combative and sue your potential consumers, indies for the most part have been innovating their way through this time period.
A2IM says that things are looking good in their press release last week:
“Independent labels accounted for 32% of aggregate album sales in 2008, up almost 1.5% from 2007. ”
“On top internet broadcasting platforms, where consumer choice reigns, indies thrive. Overall, independent music makes up approximately 40% of all music played at non-traditional web radio and at industry leading webcaster Pandora, over half of the music users play is independent.”
Next week, my summer class on Indie Labels begins meeting and I look forward talking with the students about these revelations.
